Upon completion of week ones readings and activities it
is noticeable that there is a range different learning styles that a
Learning Manager will need to cater for. Every learner has different methods of
learning and retaining information, and it is vital for a Learning Manager to
take these weaknesses and strengths into consideration. A 21st
century Learning Manager will need to possess numerous teaching
techniques and be able to ably them diligently within a
classroom. I believe that it is of significant importance to know students
learning styles and plan appropriately.
After participating in Felder and Solomon's Learning Styles Questionnaire I found that the results reflected my learning style quite well. The results concluded that I was fairly well balanced on the active and reflective scale. This result suggests that I prefer to think about things quietly to myself first before I try things. I believe that this is accurate as I will often listen attentively and then consider the best way to approach a task (Felder, Solomon, 2012). The results for the sensing and intuitive scale suggest that I am more of a sensing learner. Sensor Learners generally tend to like learning facts and are patient with details and good at memorizing facts. I believe that these results are relatively accurate, in that I consider myself to be practical and careful with the tasks I am asked to complete and I am patient with details (Felder, Solomon, 2012).
My results for the visual and verbal conclude that I have a moderate preference for the verbal dimension. According to Felder and Solomon, 2012, verbal learners get more out of words whether they are written or spoken explanations. I believe these results are accurate as I prefer to read details of a tasks and be given a clear explanation of what is expected before I attempt a it.
My score for the sequential and global scale suggest that I am fairly well balanced however my results were more in favor of a sequential. 'Sequential learners tend to gain understanding in linear steps, with each step following logically from the previous one.' (Felder, Solomon, 2012, p1). This quote refers to my preference of learning very accurately, I prefer to be told what is expected and how to do it.
I believe that this weeks activities and readings made me more aware of my own learning styles and how important it is to understand my future learners and how the learn best. In the 21st century Learning Mangers have access to a wide range of technologies that they could incorporate into their lessons to benefit each learning style, and it is methods that the students are familiar and comfortable with.

Hi Laura
ReplyDeleteWow! I am impressed with the overall feel of your blog. I think it would be a relationship builder between your secondary students and you as their learning manager.
Blogs can be places where you add examples of what you can bring to a classroom based on what you know about yourself eg if you use blogs with students you will add any necessary facts to your blog thereby bypassing your need to remember them.
Great blog. Keep up the excellent postings. Have you posted comments to other blogs?
