TPACK Framework

This weeks activities included the overview of TPACK framework, this publication will explore what this is, why it was formed and why it is important in the modern education system.

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is the name given to the set of framework that has been developed in attempt to identify the nature of knowledge, required by teachers, to implement relevant technology within their classrooms. However, this also takes into consideration the complex nature of teacher knowledge and the importance of content, pedagogy as well as technology.

Technology knowledge represents a Learning Managers ability to use software, programs and computers. Content knowledge represents what a Learning Manger is trying to present/teach to their students, whether it be maths, English, science etc. Pedagogical knowledge represents how to teach the content

It is important to note that these aspects overlap, for example: Pedagogical knowledge and Content knowledge meet (PCK), to allow you to effectively teach that specific content. Following this, Pedagogical knowledge and Technical knowledge meet (TPK), knowing how to use technology to support teaching. Finally, Content knowledge and Technological knowledge meet (TCP), allowing the Learning Manager to know and understand the technology used and how it relates and supports the content.

This can be viewed in the diagram below:

For further Explanation I found the TPACK in 3 minuets video extremely helpful.

In relation to the importance of this with 21st century education system, it all relates back to the technology that our future students grew up with. Students will be more responsive to tasks and activities if what they know and enjoy is implemented effectively within the classroom. This framework supports technological integration within schools.
